How did this happen? Why did this happen? Don't Doctors Know Better?
It is normal to have questions like this when you find out your child is suffering from Erb's Palsy, a condition that will affect your child for the rest of his or her life. We expect doctors and nurses to look out for every possible danger and take appropriate action to ensure a safe delivery, so it can be jarring to think about the possibility that their negligence left your baby hurt.
At the law firm of JKFM in Cleveland, Ohio, we provide families who have been touched by a birth injury with the support and legal representation they need to make things right. If your child has been harmed as a result of negligence, we will do everything in our power to ensure you have the financial resources you need to tend to your child's needs.
What Is Erb's Palsy?
Erb's Palsy is a condition where the nerves of the neck and shoulder have suffered damage, resulting in loss of feeling and/or movement in the baby's arm, hand and fingers. Erb's Palsy can be caused by shoulder dystocia during child birth and is also considered to be a form of brachial plexus disorder.
This condition is often the result of negligence or carelessness during the delivery process. When doctors and nurses fail to monitor signs of fetal distress, fail to take quick action or misuse tools such as forceps and extractors, it can result in the damage to the nerves that brings on Erb's Palsy.
