Personal Injury & Wrongful death

Motor Vehicle Accidents

Ohio Car and Truck Accident Attorneys

The handling of personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits resulting from motor vehicle wrecks is not simple. Many attorneys regard motor vehicle accident cases as simple, run of the mill matters. That is rarely the case. Injuries that do not appear serious at first may plague someone for life, such as a brain injury. Insurance coverage may be complicated, especially if the other driver is not insured or underinsured. Even those cases that do not involve serious injuries or complex legal questions are often defended aggressively by insurance companies.

At Jeffries, Kube, Forrest & Monteleone Co., L.P.A., in Cleveland, Ohio, our car and truck accident attorneys are experienced at dealing with the various issues that arise during the course of a motor vehicle accident case. Because of our reputation for success, many times the insurance companies that defend at-fault drivers are willing to settle cases without a lawsuit being filed. However, if the insurance company does not make a fair settlement offer, our attorneys are able and willing to protect our clients' rights in court.

Here are some important things you should do after you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident:

  • Stop immediately.
  • Assist the injured, and call an ambulance if needed.
  • Don't move the vehicles.
  • Call the police and file a report. Obtain the police report number and a copy of the report when it is available.
  • Protect yourself and others by turning on your flashers.
  • Exchange only your name, address, phone number and insurance information (insurance company, insured, policy number) with the other driver.
  • Get names and contact information of any witnesses to the accident
  • Get the following information about the other car(s) involved in the accident: year, color, make, model, license plate #, and owner information.
  • Make sure your insurance papers are in order.
  • Wait until the police arrive and assist the officer where possible.
  • Admit no guilt or wrongdoing. Make sure your injuries are noted on the police report.
  • If a parked car is involved, try to locate the owner; otherwise leave a conspicuous note.
  • Don't leave the scene until the police officer dismisses you.
  • Get a thorough medical checkup.
  • Keep records of all the doctors you see.
  • Keep all medical bills and receipts.
  • Call your lawyer and be able to provide pertinent information about the accident including the date, time and location of the crash.
