Who is a Whistleblower?
Some companies try to cheat the government by overcharging, falsifying information or through other wrongful acts. If you are aware that your employer or any company is defrauding the government, you have a moral obligation to report those actions. A whistleblower is a person, who has followed the complex rules and legal procedures and reports an organization for misconduct or unlawful practices.
Compensation and Retaliation Protection
The law offers some incentives and protections for whistleblowers.
- Potential compensation: If you “blew the whistle” on a company you may be entitled to compensation because you are saving the government money. The law encourages whistleblowers with monetary compensation.
- Protection from retaliation: One of the concerns that whistleblowers face is retaliation. While there are laws in place to protect whistleblowers from retaliation, often whistleblowers are concerned about their jobs.
